There are several schools that are promoting the idea of "cash for grades." In this system, children who get good grades will be given money from the school.

Discuss what you believe to be some of the negative and positive aspects of this policy.

I believe that schools that promote "cash for grades" for children could have some positive and negative aspects. I think a positive aspect for schools to give out cash for grades would encourage the kids to do better.  I think that the children that receive cash for grades would make them feel like they have accomplished something.  One of the negative aspects it could have would be the child feels like their parents have to give them cash for their grades also. Another aspects would be the kids that cheat off of the other children that tries so hard because there is always going to be those kids that does whatever it takes to get what they want.  I graduated from Pocahontas High School and when I was in about the third grade they did a program called Abbot and students that had all A's or A's and B's would get a thing for Wendy's for a frosty. At the time I thought it was a good idea because I would be excited but then you see the other kids that didn’t get anything and could tell they was disappointed.

I think that the cash for grades would be a good idea if it was set up fair because everyone is different and they also learn different. Something I think would be a cool idea is instead of looking to see who have made all A’s or A’s and B’s then look at subject wise because some kids might be better in one subject then the other.

  1. I particularly like the last sentence you posted, "something I think would be a cool idea is instead of looking to see who have made all A’s or A’s and B’s then look at subject wise because some kids might be better in one subject then the other." I also think that most kids learn stuff differently and just because they do not have all A's and B's does not meant that they did not try. They should still be rewarded.

  2. I agree with you, Some students are not at the same level as the other children. So it is not fair to them to be left out if they are trying hard too. I also believe instead of actual cash at hand, they should be rewarded tokens that can be spent at the book fair and or a school store. That way they can buy school supplies and educational things.Rather than junk.

  3. I agree with you stating that all children are not on the same level when it comes to education. So, it really wouldn't be fair for some students to get rewarded for their good grades and the next child not get rewards for his grades when he put in effort and tried his hardest just like everyone else. The schools need to come up with a better plan that is fair to everyone, because some children do have learning disabilities.

  4. I agree with you that this program would have a positive impact on children. I agree children might have the drive to try harder and do their own work, just to see if maybe they were able to make the grade on their own. I also agree some are going to feel left out. The schools need to find a way to acknowledge everyone in their positive abilities to accomplish positive goals. Some may not be athletic or academic, but are able to help with giving someone a pat on the back for the good that they accomplished, or like you said be subject based, not just overall grades.
