Blog 6

I do not have children of my own but I can say that when I do decide to have children I will try to monitor what they read. I know that I will not be able to monitor everything they read but I would hope to monitor the majority of it. I would not want my children reading about “adult content” until after I have already talked to them about it. I think that it is a parent’s job to teach their children about adulthood. I know that some parents don’t want to talk to their children about sex or anything pertaining to that subject, so their children either find out by other people or they read about it. I see kids that are only thirteen and fourteen talking about Fifty Shades of Grey and I do not think that is an appropriate book for anyone under the age of sixteen and under. When I was in seventh grade these sex education people came in and showed us a video of different kind of disease and different things. The school never informed my mom that they were going to show us this video and at that time my mom never talked to me about sex.  I think now days that children are learning about different things at a younger age.  I think that some of the magazines that they have at the checkout should have the cover of the magazine covered up because there are some inappropriate things displayed on some of the covers.
