Final Blog

For your final blog entry, I would like you to discuss one thing you think I should change about the course and why, and one thing you think I should keep from the course.

I am going to start out with how much I am relieved that this is our final blog. It has nothing to do with you but I am so ready for this semester to end because I have been so overwhelmed this semester. I have really enjoyed this class and have enjoyed having you for an instructor. There are two things I think that you should change about this course.  The first thing is how the essays are fifty percent of our grade. I know that this is an English class but no matter how hard some people try writing essays just is not something they feel comfortable doing. I feel as writing papers is one of my weaknesses. The second thing that I think you should change about this course is the vocabulary quizzes. I know that in English that you learn new words and what they mean, but it seems like every time I took the quiz the definition that I looked up online was not the one that was in the quiz. Therefore, I would not make a very good grade on the vocabulary because it was not what I had written down. I think that each section should count as thirty percent of our grade besides the final and leave that at ten percent. One thing that I really liked was the quizzes that we had to do most weeks. I like how you gave us five attempts and then averaged our grade out of how many times we took it.

Free Writing

Since tomorrow is my niece’s birthday I am going to talk a little bit about her. My niece, Lexi, will be three years old tomorrow, and I have found myself the last couple of days asking myself where the time has went. When Lexi was born she weighed six pounds and two ounces. Lexi was a good baby and even though I was still a senior in high school I always wanted to be at my sister’s house taking care of her and dressing her up. Lexi is the only niece I have got out of six nephews and she loves her aunt Nedda.  Lexi is a very energetic little girl that loves to play with princess dolls, baby dolls, and play hot wheels with her brother. She also loves to watch Scooby-Doo, Sophia the first, Sponge-bob, and Disney movies. Lexi likes to go shopping at the mall and every time my sister drives by it Lexi always says “I go to the mall with Nedda”. Tomorrow I am taking her to the mall and going to let her build a stuffed animal at build a bear and then we are going to go get something to eat. Like most aunts I really like to brag on my niece and nephew because that is what we like to do right? I really enjoy being an aunt and do not know what I would do if that happen to change. I love all my nieces and nephews the same and hope that they know how much I love them.

This was right after she was born :)
 This was recently!

Annotated Bibliography

In my essay I am going to talk about how some parents think it should be the responsibility of the parents to teach children about sex and others think that it is the school responsibility to teach about sex.  When I was in seventh grade (age 13 and 14) my classmates and I were divided between one male group and one female group. When we went into the library and sat down we begin to watch a movie over different diseases that you can get from sexual intercourse. After that, they begin to tell us about contraceptives such as different forms birth control and condoms. When I went home I didn’t say anything to my mom because I thought well she will talk to me soon about it anyways. That time never did come. I do think that it should be the parents responsibility but most of the time they are not going to talk to their children.  I think that all public and secondary schools should be required to have a sex education class. If the schools would have a required class on sex education then maybe we would not have so many teen pregnancies. I also think that if schools would teach a sex education class then it would tell the children about the diseases that can occur if you have unprotected sex. I think sex education should also be taught in schools because if there is a parent’s absentee in the home then some children do not get the sex education talk from a mom or a dad. Some parents argue that teaching sexual intercourse at school encourages them to have sexual intercourse but I do not see this being the case.

Blog 11

Do you think I should be able to ban certain topics, or should you be able to write about anything you would like?  Why do you think I ban topics?

When I started reading the topics that were banned I was like I could probably go on and on about certain ones. I know that many people are probably disappointed but those topics are the ones that are talked about on an everyday basis. I do think that we should be able to write about whatever interest us, but I do understand why there are certain things you do not want us to write about. If I was a teacher I would not want to read thirty peoples paper mainly over the same stuff. I would not want to hear if someone was against abortions or for them. I think that everyone has their own opinions and most of the time other people are not going to like what they think. I think each topic that you said we could not discuss is so controversial and even though I have so much I could say about each of them I think it is best that we did not write papers over them. I think you should be able to ban anything that you do not want to have to read. Everyone has to understand the position that you are in and to have to grade something that you do not believe or do believe in is something that I would not want to do. I have had another teacher like this in my college career that did not want us to write our papers over the same topics that you had asked us not to.

There are several schools that are promoting the idea of "cash for grades." In this system, children who get good grades will be given money from the school.

Discuss what you believe to be some of the negative and positive aspects of this policy.

I believe that schools that promote "cash for grades" for children could have some positive and negative aspects. I think a positive aspect for schools to give out cash for grades would encourage the kids to do better.  I think that the children that receive cash for grades would make them feel like they have accomplished something.  One of the negative aspects it could have would be the child feels like their parents have to give them cash for their grades also. Another aspects would be the kids that cheat off of the other children that tries so hard because there is always going to be those kids that does whatever it takes to get what they want.  I graduated from Pocahontas High School and when I was in about the third grade they did a program called Abbot and students that had all A's or A's and B's would get a thing for Wendy's for a frosty. At the time I thought it was a good idea because I would be excited but then you see the other kids that didn’t get anything and could tell they was disappointed.

I think that the cash for grades would be a good idea if it was set up fair because everyone is different and they also learn different. Something I think would be a cool idea is instead of looking to see who have made all A’s or A’s and B’s then look at subject wise because some kids might be better in one subject then the other.
